So we've been having a bit of a debate in the office because we wanted to do the headline "Local man gives up sugar for 12 minutes" but then overdoing the "local man" trope is a bit male-centric, so we considered "Local woman" but then that sounds like we're typecasting women so that wasn't great either, but I think we've finally found a worthy compromise:
it’s funny when my friends who aren’t on tumblr send me tumblr posts from other sites cause their either an extremely popular post that i’ve seen 20 times on my dash in the last day or like. the children’s hospital post. don’t get me wrong i still appreciate their gifts but it’s like. thank you for foraging these berries for me unfortunately i live in the bush
Nothing more than mechanisms and algorithmic responses.
[ID: gifs from Star Trek TNG of Data speaking in different scenes.
1. Data says, “I have no feelings… of any kind.”
2. To Geordi, “I would never risk letting that happen again. My friendship with you is too important to me.”
3. With the view on Data’s face, subtitles say, “But I am not mystified by the need to be loved, or to have friendship. These are things I do understand.”
4. To Riker and Troi, “I am also fond of you, Commander. And you as well, Counselor.”
5. Worf is holding Spot awkwardly, and Data tells him, “Tell him he is a pretty cat. And a good cat.”
6. Data says, “If I had not acted on their behalf, they would have been destroyed. I could not allow that to happen, sir.”
7. He says, “If she knew she were an android, we would have something to share. I would no longer be alone in the universe.”
8. Geordi is doing maintenance on Data’s head, and he says, “Yeah, but you’re not just another electronic system.” Data says, “Thank you, Geordi. Nor are you just another biological organism.”
9. Data speaks in voiceover while the camera zooms into Lal’s face, “… Lal, which I have learned in the language Hindi means “beloved”.“
10. “He accepted me for what I am, and that, I have learned, is friendship. But I do not know how to say goodbye.”

I don’t get it, man. why. why do we have to homogenize everything. why does every product have to look and behave and feel the exact same way. why can’t tumblr maintain its individuality? why can’t it lean into the things that make it a unique and refreshing offering instead of scrambling to make it a carbon copy of twitter? sucks, man. sucks.
it’s just like. this broadcasts loud and clear that the people behind the curtain have no pride or faith in this site at all. that tumblr, as a whole, has no worth or merit unless it’s somehow tricking the larger internet community into thinking it’s actually another site. and the users are supposed to celebrate this? where’s the dignity? where’s the self-respect? where’s the joy? it’s disheartening and embarrassing to be forced to conform. smh.
this is so nostalgic. tumblr rolls out something terrible. everyone complains. it breaks several people's dashboards. for some reason it only rolls out to a few people at a time with seemingly no warning. the community collectively and immediately searches for a browser extension that undoes the change. i know we've all gotten burnt out on all social media sucking but this is genuinely The tumblr experience. everyone who hasn't gotten it already gets an achievement. welcome to the club
